Colour tells us so much about a brand. Consider this revamp of Oxfam’s signage. I’ve been walking past it on the opposite side of the street for a while now and wondered what the yellow wording says. On finally Googling it, I felt a tinge of sadness that ’empowers women’ isn’t being shouted more loudly.
The Design Museum’s upcoming Hella Jongerius exhibition promises to show us the theory behind colour, exploring the way it shapes what we see. And I recently had the pleasure of seeing this in practice at Tate Britain’s David Hockney retrospective. Hockney uses colour to perfectly portray the light and heat of his environment, and provides a lesson for us all.
